This past year, God blessed my family with three baby girls—which meant three baby shower gifts! After buying necessities from their baby registry (always buy from the registry first!), I wanted to add a homemade gift.
I was inspired by the rose from Beauty and the Beast.
Choosing the Flower
Some ideas include:
- Flower based on recipient’s name
- Birth Month flower (reminder: babies aren’t usually born on their due date)
- Flower to match a color scheme
- Victorian “flower language” meanings
Choosing the Cloche
A “cloche” is a glass dome typically used for protecting plants or decor. Cloches can be very pricey depending on the seller. I did not have any luck thrifting a cloche.
Hobby Lobby sells medium-sized glass cloches for $10.00 here: Glass Clock Dome with Base
This was the best deal I could find. Make sure the cloche size and the flower petal size are compatible. You do not want squished flower petals.
Supplies
I have linked the exact supplies I used for my own projects. I am not sponsored and do not make commission.
- (1 x) Cloche (make sure you have the correct size for your flower petals)
- Artificial flower (craft stores have cheaper flowers)
- (1 x) Hot glue gun *
- 1 bag of Hot glue sticks
- (1 x) Foam disc
- (1 x) X-acto knife
- 1 bag of Artificial Moss
*You can use any kind of strong glue to adhere the moss to the foam disc.

Steps
1. Cut the foam disc with an X-acto knife to be slightly smaller than the base of the cloche.

2. Next, cut the foam cylinder in half to create two shorter discs (otherwise, it would be too tall).

3. Place half of the foam cylinder on the base of the cloche. It should be slightly smaller than the base of the cloche.

4. Hot glue the artificial moss to the foam disc. Trim off any excess (optional).

5. Cut the flower stem to fit into the cloche. Make sure that the flower stem is short enough and the flower petals won’t be squished against the glass.

6. Put a dot of glue on the flower stem so the flower is sturdy. Gently poke the flower stem(s) into the foam base.

7. Place the glass dome over the flower. I added a dot of sticky putty in the ridge of the base where the glass sits, so the glass top doesn’t pop off easily.

Final Product

Making a flower cloche is a fairly straightforward (albeit, messy) craft. The results were stunning!
I hope this inspires you to craft DIY gifts for your loved ones. Creating is oftentimes more meaningful than consuming.
